September, in step with the late season
September has a unique atmosphere at Gervanne Camping.
Camping in the Drôme in September means watching the summer vacation come to an end and the atmosphere slowly change.
The kids have gone back to school, and little by little, life at the campground is settling into a new rhythm. There are fewer people, the days are quieter, and we’re once again enjoying that gentle late-season atmosphere that we particularly love in the Drôme Valley.
Summer isn’t quite over yet, though.
The nice weather is still here, the pool is still open, and we’re still enjoying the river and the outdoors… but without the hustle and bustle of July and August.
Days that start off slowly
In September, the mornings are often cooler, which makes you want to take your time.
We go get some bread, have coffee outside, and chat a bit with the neighbors before deciding what to do for the day.
Some go for a walk, others hop on their bikes, head to the market, or explore the surrounding area. And then there are those who ultimately decide not to do much of anything.
And that’s great, too.
At the campground, some activities are still taking place: a yoga session, water aerobics, a guided hike, a massage… There’s still plenty going on, just at a different pace.
Enjoy the rest of the summer—but in a different way
The pool is always open in September, and when the sun comes out, we quickly fall back into our summer routines.
The Drôme and the Gervanne are always right nearby. You can go for a walk along the water’s edge, sit for a few moments on the pebbles, or simply enjoy the scenery as it slowly changes with the approach of fall.
The days are still pleasant, while the evenings are starting to get a little cooler. It’s time to break out the light sweater again after sunset.
That’s what September is all about, too.
Discover the Drôme in September—a different way
The change of pace isn’t limited to camping.
Here, too, September is different.
The roads are quieter, as are the hiking trails. Whether by bike, on foot, or by car, you can explore Crest, the Drôme Valley, the Gervanne, and the surrounding villages with far less hustle and bustle than in the height of summer.
The markets are still open, as are the outdoor seating areas, but people are taking their time more now.
This is a particularly pleasant time of year for walking or biking: the sun is generally not as strong as it is in the middle of summer, and it’s easier to get out for the day.
The little ones are still on vacation
September isn’t just for retirees or travelers without children, by the way.
We also welcome families with very young children who are not yet in school.
For them, camping takes on a whole new dimension: less hustle and bustle, a quieter pool, space to walk around, and days that can be planned entirely around the children’s schedule.
No need to rush through the program.
A quiet morning, a nap, a quick trip to the pool or down to the river… and the day is already well underway.
The luxury of having time
In the end, that might be what best characterizes a camping trip in the Drôme in September: you have plenty of time.
Time to chat a little longer. To change plans at the last minute. To go for a walk because it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day. To read in front of your tent or RV. To swim a few laps. To come back from a walk without checking the time.
The campground is still bustling, but it’s quieter.
The valley, too.
And for those who can take their vacations outside of peak season—whether they have young children, are retired, or simply have a few days off at a different time of year—September offers a chance to discover the Gervanne and the Drôme in a whole new light.
A little less lively, much more peaceful.
And always with a touch of summer.
